Résumé and Interview Skills Night

By Rochelle Roberts, Third Year Speech Pathology, Curtin University

WAALHIIBE members were lucky enough to be joined by three industry health professionals for a night of resume writing and interview skills.

Resume skills night Nov2016At the beginning of the evening, we were split into three groups which rotated through the presenters to gain insight into improving our resumes and standing out during an interview.  Angela from Hall and Prior has many years of experience working for the Department of Health and passed on her knowledge on how to conduct a great interview. Sarah Moore (pictured right) of Edith Cowan University Careers Centre educates students on ways to improve their interview and resume writing skills in preparation for graduating. Sarah provided some different interview tips and it was interesting to hear two alternative view points.

Hannah Cauchi works in the Recruitment team at Rural Health West and coordinates the Rural Health Professionals Program (RHPP). This program aims to increase the rural and remote allied health and nursing workforce and improve retention rates. Through the program Hannah reviews candidate’s resumes and is involved with aligning appropriate candidates with employment vacancies in rural Western Australia. Hannah passed on her tips on how to refine our resumes to capture a potential employer’s attention.

On conclusion of the event we all went home with some WAALHIIBE goodies, a revised version of our current resume and improved job hunting confidence.
