Rural Health West, in partnership with the Aboriginal Health Council of WA (AHCWA), provides the Ear Health Coordination Program in WA. This program works collaboratively with primary health care clinics and other stakeholders to identify and support activity needed to improve ear health.

WA Child Ear Health Strategy

This Strategy has been developed to tackle ear disease amongst children, particularly in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Western Australia. It provides a road map for better care through multi-agency service planning, strengthened community focused partnerships, alignment of funding, and better coordination.

Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia

The Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia (ACHWA) is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) in Western Australia. AHCWA exist to support and act on behalf of their 23 Member ACCHS throughout WA, actively responding to the individual and collective needs of their Members.

Hearing Australia HAP-EE Ears For Early Years program 

Through the Hearing Australia HAP-EE program Aboriginal children aged 0-6 years will receive hearing checks across a number of rural and remote locations. Screening data has been provided to Rural Health West from the HAP-EE program identifying a number of locations deemed as high priority for an increase to follow up ear and hearing health services.

Ear equipment supply, maintenance and repair

The Australian Government has invested in a number of ear and hearing health initiatives which are available nationally, free of charge.

Sonic Innovations has been contracted to manage the supply of equipment and accessories, maintenance and calibration services, and freight for ear assessment equipment and accessories supplied to Aboriginal Medical Services and other health services with a predominance of Aboriginal clients.  A list of services in Western Australia with ear assessment equipment is available here.
