Clinical Nurse Specialist - Mental Health

About the Role
  • We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist – Mental Health Liaison to establish and maintain high quality standards of patient care by leadership, delivery of care and role modelling in accordance with policies and procedures. In addition, this position acts as a clinical resource to staff across the hospital, and provides expert clinical assessment, screening, follow-up and care as required.
Experience & Skills
  • Eligible for registration in the category of Registered Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • 2. Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience of mental health disorders and provision of evidence based treatment in acute and community settings.
  • 3. Significant experience in crisis intervention and the prioritising, and management of psychiatric and nonpsychiatric emergencies in complex situations.
  • 4. Knowledge and skills in the implementation of the WA Mental Health Act and legislation affecting clinical practice.
  • 5. Highly developed communication skills including computer literacy.
  • 6. Highly developed negotiation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • 7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and use effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Covering an area of some 470,000 square kilometres, the Midwest region extends from the outback to the ocean. The economic base for the region centres on mining, agriculture, fishing and tourism. Attractions include internationally recognised windsurfing beaches, wildflowers and a rich maritime history of mutiny and shipwrecks.

The region has a population of more than 50,000 people. More than half is based in the City of Geraldton, the region’s commercial, administrative and service centre, around four hours drive north of Perth.

The coastal part of the region enjoys a Mediterranean climate, while the inland experiences warm, dry summers and cool winters.

There are approximately 80 doctors in the region, including private general practitioners, specialists and doctors employed by the hospital and the Aboriginal Medical Service.
