Speech Pathologist

About the Role
  • New opportunity for an experienced Speech Pathologist to join Karratha Central Healthcare.This role will suit an enthusiastic and client-centred Speech Pathologist seeking to grow an NDIS patient base.

    The focus of this role is making a positive difference to individuals with a disability, including providing assessments and treatments, guidance and education to individuals and their carers. You will join a supportive and passionate team of clinical professionals providing psychology, podiatry, dietetics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and diagnostic/ultrasound services with a recognised and respected employer. You will have support from an experienced administration team and the flexibility and autonomy to manage your workload and time.

    The Speech Pathologist would be responsible for undertaking assessments and interventions for a variety of clients with varied developmental conditions, including communication, speech, language, voice, fluency and swallowing and developing and implementing programs, strategies and materials to enable clients to achieve their goals.
Experience & Skills
  • Relevant qualification in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia
  • A current driver’s licence and own car
  • Experience in managing a general client caseload with knowledge of NDIS funding models (desirable)
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Strong autonomy with ability to manage clients and caseload indepdently
  • Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team to ensure optimal client care and support, inducing participating in case conferences, working groups or service meetings

The Pilbara is located about 1600 kilometres north of Perth, in the north-west region of Western Australia, with an area of around 500,000 square kilometres and a population of approximately 40,000 people. The primary towns are Karratha and Port Hedland on the coast, and Tom Price and Newman inland.

An area of rugged beauty, the Pilbara has a vast coastal plain, spectacular inland ranges and an arid desert region reaching into the centre of Australia. It is characterised by the rich red hues of its landscape, imparted by the abundance of natural riches in its reserves of iron ore. Mining and offshore oil and gas exploration have given rise to the Pilbara’s economic boom in recent years, drawing large numbers of people to the region on both a temporary and permanent basis.

It has a tropical, semi-desert climate with a mainly summer rainfall associated with thunderstorms. From October to April temperatures throughout the region generally exceed 32 degrees celsius every day, sometimes topping 40 degrees, particularly in inland areas.

There are approximately 46 doctors working in the region in various areas, including general practices, Aboriginal Medical Services, hospitals and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
