Clinical Nurse Specialist

About the Role
  • Seeking a experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Renal Health Centre, in Derby Western Australia. Be part of a regional Aboriginal Corporation delivering a Community Controlled Health Service that provides comprehensive primary health care in 5 remote Aboriginal community clinics at Balgo, Billiluna, Mulan, Beagle Bay and Bidyadanga.

    As part of your role, you will be responsible for managing a clinical team within the Renal Health Centre in Derby, working with the Renal Services Manager and clinical nurses to assist staff in maintaining optimal health outcomes of their primary care patients, including assessment of monthly bloods, review sheets, patient education, and primary health care follow-up, access assessment according to unit policies and procedures and key performance indicators. You will corrdinate the dialysis waiting list and transfers of Kimberley patients liasing with Royal Perth Hospital regarding the transfer of hemodialysis patients to and from the Kimberley and communicating this information to the Renal Services Manager and relevant shift coordinators to ensure a continuity of patient care. In addition you will also be responsible for reporting functions and coordinating and managing the workforce including recruitment, staff performance, staff development and training.
Experience & Skills
  • APHRA registration
  • Renal trained Registered Nurse with more than 5 years’ experience in provision of renal health care
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (desirable)
  • Advanced renal clinical skills, knowledge and experience and the ability to deliver clinical instruction / education programs
  • Commitment to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control
  • Previous experience in working in the Aboriginal Community Control sector(desirable)
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work as an effective team member and maintain confidentiality at all levels
  • Sound computer skills “C” class driver’s license

Kimberley

The Kimberley is located in the north-west region of Western Australia. It covers an area of 421,451 square kilometres, an area three times the size of England, but is home to only 35,748 people. A relatively high proportion of the residents are Aboriginal Australians. The population swells seasonally with an influx of tourists and a mobile working population.

The major towns of the Kimberley include Broome and Derby on the west coast, with Kununurra and Wyndham in the east. There are approximately 70 general practitioners including GP registrars in the region, nine in private practice, 33 in Aboriginal Medical Services, two in the Royal Flying Doctor Service and 26 hospital based general practitioners.
