Occupational Therapist

About the Role
  • Seeking a experienced occupational therapist to work in a paediatric setting in Karratha with the opportunity to grow caseload.

    The successful candidate will perform one-on-one interviews, therapy needs assessments, and diagnostic assessments with children, adolescents and families/carers (including from culturally and linguistically diverse populations) in high standard clinical settings and provide clinical feedback to families and other stakeholders / referring agencies as required. You will also liaise with community and health agencies regarding clinical management of clients and educate other professionals and carers in allied health matters.

    The Karratha clinic is mobile and the team is currently comprised of a speech pathologist whose regularly joined by visiting clinicians such as a social worker, exercise physiologist and occupational therapist.
Experience & Skills
  • Ideally seeking an occupational therapist with a minimum of two years’ experience
  • Undergradute/postgraduate degree in Occupational Therapy is essential in addition to general AHPRA registration as an occupational therapist
  • Experience working with children, families and carers and/or in the disability sector (desirable)
  • The successful candidate will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the laws and ethical standards governing clinical practice and therapy provision with NDIS and relevant state bodies
  • They will have the ability to work independently, use initiative and set priorities as well as work constructively within a team and observe a professional code of conduct
  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, a high level of attention to detail and experience with relevant computer applications.
  • Working with Children Check for all relevant states where child related work will be conducted and Current National Police Clearance
  • The position will also require the candidate to drive a manual motor vehicle or be willing to use their own car to drive large distances (>400km) and on unsealed roads.

The Pilbara is located about 1600 kilometres north of Perth, in the north-west region of Western Australia, with an area of around 500,000 square kilometres and a population of approximately 40,000 people. The primary towns are Karratha and Port Hedland on the coast, and Tom Price and Newman inland.

An area of rugged beauty, the Pilbara has a vast coastal plain, spectacular inland ranges and an arid desert region reaching into the centre of Australia. It is characterised by the rich red hues of its landscape, imparted by the abundance of natural riches in its reserves of iron ore. Mining and offshore oil and gas exploration have given rise to the Pilbara’s economic boom in recent years, drawing large numbers of people to the region on both a temporary and permanent basis.

It has a tropical, semi-desert climate with a mainly summer rainfall associated with thunderstorms. From October to April temperatures throughout the region generally exceed 32 degrees celsius every day, sometimes topping 40 degrees, particularly in inland areas.

There are approximately 46 doctors working in the region in various areas, including general practices, Aboriginal Medical Services, hospitals and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
