Securing the right GP locum for your general practice.
Rural Health West's GP Locum Placement Service is a FREE service offered by Rural Health West, to help facilitate GP locum engagements between general practices/Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) and GP locums.
The Locum Placement Service is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and the WA Country Health Service.
We support Western Australian rural general practices and ACCHS to secure vocationally registered GP locums for periods of leave or absence. We are committed to ensuring rural communities have ongoing access to primary medical care services close to home.
We understand the specialised skills and requirements needed to work in rural and remote Western Australia and provide a personalised approach in matching GP locums with rural general practices and ACCHS.
Need a GP locum for your general practice or ACCHS?
Rural Health West maintains a pool of appropriately registered GP locums to participate in the program.
If you are looking to engage a GP locum for your general practice or ACCHS, we can assist you with:
- advertising your GP locum vacancy on the Rural Health West website and through fortnightly e-bulletins;
- providing visiting GP locums with details of the town and general practice they will be working in;
- assisting with negotiating fees and placement terms;
- arranging travel for the GP locum and assisting with a travel subsidy, where applicable; and
- providing handover guidelines for general practices and ACCHS.
What happens next?
Once you have registered a vacancy with us, you can expect your GP locum position to be advertised under our Current Locum Opportunities page within 2-3 business days after receiving your finalised Locum Request Form. The vacancy will also be included in our latest e-bulletin, sent to our existing registered GP locums each fortnight.
Our GP Locum Placement Service Team will then contact you to discuss suitable applicants who express an interest in your vacancy. We will work with you to help negotiate fees and GP locum placement terms and conditions, as well as any travel arrangements and payments for the visiting GP locum.
