Hot Tips in General Practice

6 May 2008

This broadcast had no specific clinical focus. Instead, the program was an opportunity for GPs to call in and discuss any aspect of the running of their practice and to share any ‘hot tips’. Professor Max Kamien joins us in the studio to discuss some general tips and take your calls.

Professor Max Kamien is the Professor of General Practice at the University of Western Australia.

Topics discussed will include:

  • Succession planning
  • Patients who ‘shop’ for GP advice or drug prescription
  • Management strategies for Chronic Fatigue
  • Eye emergencies
  • Patient management including appointment attendance

We also speak to General Practice guru Professor John Murtagh regarding all sorts of common problems and solutions for new and established GPs.

At the 2008 Annual Conference there was a lot of discussion about the role of the GP within a rural community. In particular we had a panel discuss the value of formal and informal GP involvement in community decision making. We caught up with some panellists and other participants at the conference and asked their opinions on the key issues in relation to the role of GPs as community leaders.

This broadcast has been allocated two CPD points by The RACGP and one CPD point by ACRRM. CPD points are not guaranteed and are subject to review by both agencies.
