Working in Aboriginal Medical Services presents diverse new challenges in the provision of comprehensive, clinical primary health care services and provides the unique opportunity to make a real impact on the health outcomes throughout regional Indigenous communities.

There are three Aboriginal Health Services operating in the Pilbara.

Wirraka Maya Aboriginal Health Service
Wirraka Maya Aboriginal Health Service, based in Port Hedland, sees an experienced team of health professionals (including Aboriginal Health Workers and Practitioners, GPs and Nurses) who work together to improve the health outcomes of Aboriginal people in the region.

Mawarnkarra Health Service
Mawarnkarra Health Services, based in Roebourne, is a community controlled Aboriginal Health Service providing holistic health care to Aboriginal communities of the West Pilbara, including Roebourne, Wickham, Point Samson and Karratha.

Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service
Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service, based in Newman, provides health services and programs for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of Newman, Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmy and Kanawarritji in the Pilbara. 

The service coordinates with other providers in the region to ensure continuity of service for clients and its programs are focused on the six key areas of nutrition, sexual health, chronic disease, physical activity, alcohol and other drugs, and social and emotional wellbeing.
