On arrival in WA, International Medical Graduates (IMGs) also known as Overseas Trained Doctors (OTDs) spend up to two weeks in Perth undergoing orientation, including finalising their registration, business and personal arrangements. They also receive a cultural and clinical introduction to life as a doctor in rural WA.

Orientation sessions may include:

–  Cultural awareness
–  The Australian health care system
–  The Rural Medical Family Network (RMFN)
–  Continuing Professional Development opportunities
–  Computerised medical records (if required)
–  General information about Rural Health West and rural Western Australia
–  A brief introduction to the Five Year International Medical Graduates Recruitment Scheme (5yr IMG Scheme)
–  Discuss practice management issues
–  Review the GP consultation process
