A national process to assess International Medical Graduates (IMGs), also known as Overseas Trained Doctors (OTDs), is currently being developed in consultation with representatives of state and territory medical boards, health departments, specialist medical colleges, the Australian Medical Council, the Australian Medical Association, postgraduate medical councils and consumer representatives.
Until this process has been finalised, IMGs wishing to pursue employment through Rural Health West must have their qualifications and experience assessed by the recruitment team at Rural Health West.
The initial assessment is based on a written application and a clinical telephone interview. Doctors for whom English is not their first language will only be considered once they have provided written evidence that they have passed the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Test. The IELTS website is at www.ielts.org.
Once the initial assessment has been made, Rural Health West assists and supports suitable doctors through the remainder of the process.
Application must be made to the Medical Board of Western Australia for provisional medical registration.
