Orientation
On arrival in WA, OTDs spend up to two weeks in Perth undergoing orientation, including finalising their registration, business and personal arrangements. They also receive a cultural and clinical introduction to life as a doctor in rural WA.
Orientation sessions may include:
- Session with Rural Health West staff covering:
- – Clinical issues
- – Cultural awareness
- – The Australian health care system
- – The Rural Medical Family Network (RMFN)
- – Continuing Professional Development opportunities
- – Computerised medical records (if required)
- – General information about Rural Health West and rural Western Australia
- – A brief introduction to the Five Year Overseas Trained Doctors (OTD) Scheme
- Up to three days in a general practice to:
- – Discuss practice management issues
- – Review the GP consultation process
