RURAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS PROGRAM (RHPP)
The Rural Health Professionals Program is a new Commonwealth funded initiative designed to attract and retain nursing and allied health professionals in rural and remote areas of Australia.
Exciting career opportunities are available for nursing and allied health professionals in regional, rural and remote areas of Western Australia. Generous settelement and support packages are available for eligible candidates; these packages will be tailored to suit the needs of the individual. The packages are designed to assist candidates to settle, integrate and remain in their rural or remote community whilst working under RHPP. The packages could include, but are not limited to, removal and relocation costs, spouse employment assistance, continuing professional development opportunities, housing/accommodation assistance, visa and immigration costs and financial bonuses for length of service.
APPLICANTS
Rural Health West will use a case management approach to match applicants to appropriate employers/vacancies.
Nurses include registered nurses, midwives, enrolled nurses and nurse practitioners.
Allied Health Professionals include but are not limited to physiotherapists, speech pathologists, dietetics and occupational therapists.
Eligibility Criteria - domestic applicants:
• The candidate must move from a RA 1 location (or any capital city) to a location that is in rural or remote Australia as defined by RA 2 to 5.
• Recent graduates (within the last 12 months) irrespective of place of study are eligible.
• The candidate must be Australian trained and where applicable registered with the appropriate professional body.
• The candidate must not have worked full-time in rural or remote Australia for the last two years.
• The candidate must enter a contract with the employer committing to rural practice for a minimum of 12 months.
Eligibility Criteria - international applicants:
• The candidate must not have obtained their primary qualification in Australia.
• The candidate must not have worked in the Australian health workforce in the previous 12 months.
• The candidate must be registered by their applicable registration body to work in the position.
• Other requirements to work in Australia such as visas must be obtained.
• The candidate must enter a contract with the employer committing to rural practice for a minimum of 12 months.

EMPLOYERS
Eligible employers - the following are examples of the types of primary health care services that can participate in the program:
• Private General Practices
• Private Allied Health Practices
• Medicare Locals
• Aged Care (residential and community)
• Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Services
• Aboriginal Medical Services
Eligible positions - are those where more than 50% of the role of the nursing or allied health professional position is dedicated to primary health care service delivery.
Employers will benefit from a free, fully case managed recruitment service from Rural Health West.
Under the settlement and retention arm of the program, Rural Health West provides assistance to the employers of successful candidates enabling them to implement evidence based workplace support arrangements that are proven to improve allied health and nursing staff retention in rural and remote areas.
Benefits to employers include, but are not limited to:
• Promotion of vacancies and identification of eligible candidates
• Confirmation of additional requirements for overseas candidates
• Completion of candidate consent, screening, interview and referee processes
• Assisting candidates and employers to develop and finalise employment contracts
