Competent Authority Pathway
The Australian Medical Council has endorsed some bodies (in the UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand & USA) as competent authorities for awarding advanced standing towards the AMC Certificate. International medical graduates (IMGs) who are eligible for the Competent Authority Pathway are not required to pass the AMC MCQ or Clinical Examination to be registered, but must satisfactorily complete a period of workplace-based performance assessment. For a list of these qualifications please visit the AMC website.
However, to date there are no authorities accredited for workplace-based assessment. Until workplace-based assessment is implemented, international medical graduates have the option to complete the AMC Clinical Examination to gain the AMC Certificate which entitles the IMG to seek general registration.
