Bush Locums

Rural Health West has developed a great set of incentives for unconditionally registered doctors interested in undertaking locum assignments in rural and remote areas.

Locum assignments can be as short as one week or much longer. They may be in major regional centres or remote outback locations; in the hot north or the cooler south; on the coast or deep inland.

To register with Rural Health West as a short-term locum, please complete a Locum Registration Form and email it to locum or fax to 6389 4501

To view our current locum opportunities click here.

Categorisation of remote/rural towns as at 1 July 2008

As part of Rural Health West’s Locum Program, all rural and remote towns (with at least one private GP) have been prioritised into categories based on the degree of remoteness of the town and the number of GPs in the town. These categories are revised every July and remain current for one financial year.

Locum requests from doctors working in Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) practices are dealt with separately.

The category into which a town has been placed determines how far in advance a locum can be allocated to a practice and the level of Practice Support Subsidy to which each doctor is entitled. Practices and doctors can find out which category their town falls into by viewing the complete list of Town Categories.

Feedback

To assist Rural Health West to monitor the quality of its Locum Program, we ask that both locums and the practices using the booking system complete and return a short questionnaire at the end of each assignment. Practices are asked to complete the
Host Locum Program Evaluation Form and to ensure the locum completes the Locum Program Evaluation Form.
