Support Grants
Support Grants for Remote and Rural General Practitioners
Rural Health West’s grant support for General Practitioners take two forms. These are:
- Rural Health West grants
- Grants administered by Rural Health West.
Rural Health West grants
- Retraining Grants are available to increase the training and abilities of GPs in rural areas and also to improve the skills of those doctors who are moving to rural and remote areas.
- Relocation Grants are up to $20,000. They are paid to cover the costs of moving GPs from urban to rural and remote areas of Western Australia.
- Remote area employment incentive grants are available to assist six remote communities to help attract and retain general practitioner services.
Grants administered by Rural Health West
- Medical Indemnity Support - The Western Australian Department of Health continues to provide funding for Rural Health West to partly offset the high cost of GP Procedural and Specialist Obstetrics Medical Indemnity expenses. The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing also provides assistance.
- Rural Retention Payments - The Rural Retention Program is a Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing initiative that has a sliding scale of annual payments to support long-serving rural and remote GPs. Rural Health West administers these payments in WA.
