Telehealth Updates

Western Australian General Practice Telehealth Advisory Group (WA GP TAG)

The WA GP TAG is a collaboration between Rural Health West and The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners WA Faculty (RACGP WA). Members include Western Australian general practitioners, Aboriginal Medical Services and other representative organisations.

The WA GP TAG aims to:

  • Build a collaborative, state-wide advisory group which addresses Telehealth initiatives and patient held electronic health records in general practice
  • Assist Rural Health West and The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (WA Faculty) to link Commonwealth and State Telehealth initiatives to the Western Australian general practice workforce
  • Gather feedback and identify the needs of the general practice workforce during the implementation and operation of Telehealth initiatives and patient held electronic health records
  • Provide a forum for rural, remote and indigenous health workforce at a state level on key Telehealth issues which require an inter-organisational, collaborative approach
  • Provide a forum for medical specialists to link with general practice Telehealth initiatives

Taking on Telehealth in your Practice

Ruarl Health West, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners WA and the WA GP TAG presented the Taking on Telehealth workshop on Friday 2 March 2012. This event was attended by over 85 general practitioners, medical specialists, practice nurses, practice managers, allied health workers and aged care facility representatives.

  • Preparing for Telehealth in your practice presented by Ms Karin Tatnell, Practice Manager, Australian Association of Practice Managers
  • ACRRM Telehealth Support Program, presented by Ms Vicki Sheedy, E-Health Manager, Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM)
  • RACGP Standards for general practice offering video consultations and implementation guidelines for video consultation in general practice presented by Dr Mike Civil, Chair RACGP National Standing Committee- Standards for General Practice, RACGP WA Faculty
  • Telehealth Tips and Tricks presented by Dr Trevor Lord, Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Council
  • Update on the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) presented by Mr Craig Szucs, Change Manager, National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA)

Telehealth Survey

The WA GP TAG is conducting a survey of general practitioners to gauge the intention to use, and the need for information, relating to Telehealth. Please take 10 minutes complete this survey.
