Retention Programs

Flexible Payments System

General Practice Rural Incentive Program (GPRIP) commenced on 1 July 2010 and is funded as part of the Rural Health Workforce Strategy. GPRIP aims to encourage medical practitioners to practice in rural and remote communities and to promote careers in rural medicine. It combines two previously separate retention incentive programs available to General Pratitioners (GPs) and Registrars, and provides a new relocation grant.

GPRIP Comprises:

  • GP Component (previously Rural Retention Program- RRP)
  • Registrar component- administered by GPET (http://www.gpet.com.au/Registrars/ChangestoRRIPSintroductionofGPRI/)
  • Rural Relocation Incentive Grant (RRIG)

GP Component and Relocation Grant Components

To be eligible for incentive payments for both these components, medical practitioners must provide services within RA2-5 locations. To determine the RA status of your location, see the mapping locator on www.doctorconnect.gov.au
