Networking Events |
![]() |
The RMFN organises a range of social networking events across the State each year which enable medical families to get together, share experiences, form friendships and provide ongoing support to one another.
Regional functions
Several times a year, networking events are organised for the families in a particular region. The local voluntary Area Representative usually attends and is able to ensure that newcomers are welcomed into the local network. Sometimes the local GP Division/Network provides administrative, financial and/or personal support to the event.
Conference Family Programs
The RMFN offers family programs at several Rural Health West medical education conferences each year. These programs facilitate networking opportunities for spouses and children while their doctor partners are involved in the medical education program. Most of these conferences are held in Perth, while one is usually held in both the Pilbara and Kimberley regions each year.
Forthcoming family programs include:
| 26 - 27 April 2008 | Annual Conference | Intercontinental Burswood, Perth |
| 24 - 25 May 2008 | Kimberley Weekend | Kimberley Grande, Kununurra |
| 28 - 29 June 2008 | AMS Weekend | Parmelia Hilton, Perth |
| 6 - 7 September 2008 | Pilbara Weekend | Point Samson Resort |
| 18 - 19 October 2008 | Fremantle Postgraduate Weekend | Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle |
Publications
The RMFN connects the many medical families scattered across rural and remote WA through its After Hours newsletter which is published twice yearly. This enables families to hear about people, lifestyles and issues in other regions and to view photos of events that have been held throughout the state.
Further information about living in rural Western Australia can be found in the publication Surviving and Thriving in Rural and Remote Western Australia.
A brochure entitled The Heart of Country Medicine provides newly-arrived doctors and their families with comprehensive information about the activities and programs of the network in Western Australia.
