Support


An important role for Rural Health West is the provision of support to encourage doctors to remain long-term in their rural locations, thereby ensuring continuity of care for their communities.

These support strategies include:

  • a range of programs to support the rural medical workforce, including promotion of their health and well-being; facilitation of rural specialist medical services; workforce planning and the development of sustainable models of General Practice; provision of financial incentives and locum cover; and access to professional support especially for specific groups such as registrars, specialists and female GPs.

  • assistance to the families of rural doctors, including a peer support network, regular social networking events and a dedicated telephone counselling service.
