Booking a Locum
Booking a locum through Rural Health West
GPs wishing to book short-term locum cover for recreational, educational, sickness or maternity leave may place their requests directly with Rural Health West.
A key objective of the Rural Health West short-term locum booking system is to give locum preference to practices in towns where it is more difficult to attract a locum and/or there are limited options for alternative models of cover. The complete list of WA towns and their priority classifications can be viewed at Town Categories.
The Locum Program Information and Guidelines provide comprehensive details to doctors and practices interested in finding out about the Rural Health West locum system. It is important that these guidelines are read carefully before booking a locum. To make a booking it is essential to complete the GP Leave Relief Booking Form and fax or post this to Rural Health West.
All doctors and practices should note that the earlier a booking request for a locum is submitted, the greater their chances are of securing a locum. Where possible we would suggest a minimum of four to six months notice be given when requesting a locum.
Booking a locum privately
Doctors and practices who wish to book a locum privately or through an agency are eligible for some financial assistance from Rural Health West, provided notice is given a minimum of two weeks before the locum is due to start an assignment. This can be done by faxing or posting a Locum Advice Form to Rural Health West.
Full details of the assistance available and the process for claiming the subsidies can be found in the Locum Program Information and Guildelines.
