This broadcast focuses on the health issues that can arise from contact with animals while working in an agricultural vocation. Joining us to discuss these issues are Professor John Edwards and Associate Professor Stanley Fenwick.
Professor Edwards is a microbiologist and the Dean of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences from Murdoch University. Associate Professor Fenwick teaches Veterinary Public Health at Murdoch University.
Topics discussed will include:
- Health issues that arise from working in a vocation of animal agriculture
- Infection and parasites including Q fever and toxoplasmosis
- Diseases that could cross the human-animal border
Immunopathologist and allergist Dr Colin Somerville spoke to us about the causes and treatment for animal allergies as well as allergies that can arise from working in close contact with chemicals and plant and pollen allergens.
Dr Stephan Langford from the Royal Flying Doctor Service gave us a demonstration of snakebite bandaging and spoke to us about best treatment and management practices.
