In this broadcast:
Professor Frank Daly and Dr Olga Ward discuss the practical approach to common poisonings that rural general practitioners experience including:
- Children ingesting household and garden chemicals
- Substance abuse
- Depression and overdose
- Heavy metals
- Tropical envenoming
We also visit the Poison Information Centre in WA and discuss the information they need when called and the advice they can offer both GPs and the public.
It is the aim of this broadcast to:
- Provide a practical approach the management of poisoned patients
- Understand the importance of risk assessment for individuals presenting with poisoning
- Consider poisoned patient’s medical and psychological needs
- Inform rural health professionals of accessible resources regarding poisoning
