Audio Only (ipod)

This program focuses on Indigenous Health and the format of the program is a little different. Rather than having a panel discussion in the studio, we went ouup to the Kimberley to talk to and get advice from many health professionals working in indigenous health.

We spoke to doctors David Atkinson and Alex Balzarelli from the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Council (KAMSC) about current Indigenous health issues. They gave us their views on where we’re currently at in providing care to indigenous people, and gave their advice on how we can improve access to health care.

We talk to staff from the Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service (OVAHS) about the impact that good neonatal care has on long-term improvement in the rates of mortality and morbidity borne by Indigenous people.

While at the OVAHS we also discussed the implications and the follow-up of child health checks with Dr Jay-Mien Phang as well as discussing with OVAHS staff the management of  follow-up services.

We spoke to staff at the Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (BRAMS) about the management of their population health programs, particularly patients suffering chronic disease. We discuss how the importance of knowing and being part of the community contributes to the success of its population health programs.

And finally we dropped into the Kimberley Satellite Dialysis Centre in Broome and spoke to the people there about the service provision and its benefits and about the importance of having this culturally safe specialist service available to the people of the Kimberley.

This broadcast has been allocated two CPD points by The RACGP and one CPD point by ACRRM. CPD points are not guaranteed and are subject to review by both agencies.
