Team Leader

About the Role
  • ?Seeking an experienced Social Worker or Psychologist to fill a Team Leader vacancy in Kalgoorlie. The service provides a high quality assessment, counselling, education and referral service for clients and their families in accordance with the program requirements and agency policies. The successful applicant will be responsible for a range of duties including but not limited to:
  • Providing a coordinating role to ensure the objectives and outcomes of services funded are achieved.
  • Providing a counselling, assessment and referral service for clients and their families in accordance with Program requirements and agency policies.
  • Providing clinical expertise to the team including the development and evaluation of program areas.
  • Developing program content and facilitate groups as required.
  • Supporting the Assistant Manager in developing, planning and evaluating of services. ?The role will also require:
  • Performing special duties as directed by the Assistant / Executive Manager, e.g. assist with community development and liaison, represent agency on public committees, give presentations to community groups etc.
  • A willingness to work across agency sites and travel within the Goldfields Region.
  • Be able to respond appropriately to a client in crisis.
  • Be available to attend critical incident debriefings, including after hours.
Experience & Skills
  • ?Minimal Criteria Recognised:
  • Tertiary level qualifications in Psychology or Social Work or related disciplines.
  • Proven experience in the provision of counselling to individuals, couples and families.
  • Proven training ability and clinical supervision skills.
  • Ability to function as a team player.
  • Sensitivity to cultural issues.
  • Proven excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Previous experience in writing formal reports.
  • Possession of a current ‘A’ class driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Current National Police Clearance.
  • Ability to apply for a Working With Children Check. ?Additional Criteria:
  • Ability to prepare and provide guidance to other staff on operational policies, practices and guidelines.
  • Able to work up to two evenings per week.
  • Ability to work within the Catholic ethos.

The Eastern Goldfields is the largest region in Western Australia. It covers almost one third of the State and has a population of about 54,000. More than half of the region’s residents live in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Esperance, on the southern coast, is the second largest centre with a population of around 13,000.

The Kalgoorlie region has been historically significant in the development of Western Australia, as the centre of the gold rush in the 1890s. As well as reminders of those times in the buildings and institutions around the city, there is still a plethora of natural bounty to be enjoyed in its eucalyptus forests, wide sweeping plains and abundance of wildlife. The cultural mix found in the region is also rich, with a melding of Indigenous and European heritages that has created an area of unique character. To the southern edge of the region the pristine beaches provide a stunning backdrop to Australia’s southern ocean, reached through a corridor of National Parks and wide swathes of unspoiled natural beauty.

The primary industries in the cooler southern part of the region are fishing and farming. The warm, dry northern areas are dominated by gold and nickel mining and industry-related services.

About 50 general practitioners work in the region across 22 practices, including Aboriginal Medical Services and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Kalgoorlie is well serviced by specialists.
