Neonatal Stabilisation and Transport Readiness (NeoSTARs) I Broome
Neonatal Stabilisation and Transport Readiness (NeoSTARs) is created and delivered by neonatologists and neonatal nurse educators and teaches current, up to date evidence-based approaches to neonatal stabilisation.
Course attendance will help you and your team to understand and master the basic skills required in the care of any sick newborn.
As well as technical skills, a high-performance team with strong supportive skills is necessary to deliver care in a safe and timely manner. This course will have a strong focus on advanced skills in crew resource management (team resources), communication and is recommended for a multidisciplinary audience.
Key workshop objectives include:
• Gaining enhanced knowledge in the management of cardiac emergencies.
• Developing the ability to identify and manage patients with chest pain.
• Increasing understanding of arrhythmia management.
• Improving proficiency in responding to cardiac arrest.
• Building greater awareness of strategies to maximize patient safety and care.
Critical Airway and Respiratory Management (CARM) | Broome
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
• Recognise the importance of oxygenation and ventilation in the assessment and management of the critically ill patient.
• Describe the indications, contraindications and technique for endotracheal intubation.
• Perform airway management: including use of airway adjuncts and rapid sequence intubation, and failed intubation pathway techniques.
• Assess the patient with respiratory distress and failure.
• Use non-invasive and invasive oxygenation and ventilation strategies according to clinical indication.
• Manage patients with foreign body airway obstruction, haemoptysis, acute asthma, COPD, acute pulmonary oedema, pneumothorax, pleural effusions, pulmonary embolism, pneumonia, croup, bronchiolitis, and thoracic injuries affecting airway, oxygenation and ventilation.
• Perform pleural decompression and drainage.
• Interpret blood gases and chest x-rays in the context of respiratory illness and injury
This Rural Health West CPD workshop, presented by leading specialists in their field, has been designed to offer practising rural medical practitioners an update in toxicological emergencies.
This one-day workshop stream covers general and specific topics related to poisoning and local toxicology, using an interactive tutorial format concentrating on small group discussions of case scenarios.
