The livelihood of many rural communities is driven by the boom or bust cycle of primary industry, which places rural populations at greater risk of poor mental health. Dedicated mental health services in rural locations are often sparse or pushed to capacity which can limit the ability for primary health practitioners to help patients access the care they need.
Breaking down the barriers in the bush – mental healthcare for our rural communities is an opportunity for rural medical and health practitioners to hear from mental health leaders and advocates about the latest services and treatments, share their personal insights, and enhance their skills and abilities to successfully care for patients with mental health issues.

The conference theme Breaking down the barriers in the bush – mental healthcare for our rural communities will address prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery across a broad spectrum of mental disorders.
With engaging keynotes and clinical updates as well as case studies, small group discussions and workshops, the conference offers a collaborative platform of discussion for rural medical practitioners.

For those delegates not staying at the Hyatt Regency Perth, please note that it is your responsibility to pay for transport costs to and from the conference venue whilst you are in Perth. Rural Health West does not reimburse travel costs to and from the conference venue by private vehicle, taxi or other transport while in Perth.
Rural Health West will provide the following travel support for currently practising general practitioners who work and live in rural and remote Western Australia.
• Fuel reimbursement; or
• Air travel for doctor and spouse/partner; and
• Air travel for up to two children* will be considered in the following cases:
• Doctor couples who both practice and register to attend the conference
• Single parent doctors
Full attendance at the conference is a condition of payment of flights and travel reimbursement by Rural Health West. If you are not in attendance for the whole program, you will be invoiced for the cost of your travel. Tickets booked prior to full registration payment being received by Rural Health West will not be authorised.
If you will be driving to Perth for the conference, you are eligible for a reimbursement for your fuel expenses to and from Perth to your home town. A Reimbursement Form will need to be completed and posted to the Events Team at Rural Health West by Friday 13 April 2018 to ensure our Accounts team can process your fuel reimbursement promptly. Please ensure that original tax invoices are provided when submitting your claim. EFTPOS receipts will not be accepted.
Flights must be booked through Corporate Traveller. Fees for changes to tickets are not reimbursable by Rural Health West. Should you wish to travel to or from Perth outside of the specified conference dates, your fare can still be covered on condition no additional expense to the organisation is incurred.

Rural Health West is unable to reimburse the following items:
• Flight arrangements not booked through Corporate Traveller
• Flight changes
• Accommodation and all related expenses (accommodation rates have been negotiated with the conference venue)
• Children’s travel unless approved by the Events Team
• Taxi charges
• Parking fees
• Hire cars
• Mileage allowance for private vehicles
• Meals other than specified in the conference program
• Conference registration fee
• Family program and babysitting fees
If conference registration is cancelled by 23 February 2018, a full refund is given. If registration is cancelled after 23 February 2018, a refund of 50 per cent is given. Refunds will not be issued for any registrations cancelled after 16 March 2018.
