Well supported country doctors delivering quality medical care

The Better Medical Care for Rural WA Initiative is a coordinated, targeted response to address the challenges faced by rural doctors across the State. It is a partnership between the WA Country Health Service and Rural Health West to ensure doctors can access relevant ongoing medical training, timely locum support, and professional mentoring, and that their families are well supported to live and work across rural Western Australia.

Family Assistance Program

The Family Assistance Program provides a range of opportunities and activities to help rural medical families integrate into the community and to engage with other medical families from across rural Western Australia.

Under the Family Assistance Program, medical practitioners can access grants to help with relocation costs and travel expenses incurred attending professional development.

Family activities will be offered at Rural Health West conferences to provide children and spouses with opportunities to meet and engage with other rural medical families.

Newly arrived families will also be provided with support from Rural Health West and will be invited to local networking events.

Children of rural health professionals enjoying time together

“My spouse and children were sponsored to attend this year’s Annual Conference. It was great for them to meet the children of my rural colleagues and to try some different activities. The level of support we’ve been shown makes us feel very welcome and will certainly encourage us to stay rural for some time.”
