Long Service and Special Award recipients of the Doctors' Service Awards 2017 will be announced at the Awards Night and Gala Dinner.
This event will run in conjunction with the Rural Health West Annual Conference 2017

When: Saturday 8 April 2017, 7.00pm to 11.00pm
Where: Grand Ballroom, Hyatt Regency Perth
Dress: Cocktail 
Price: $120pp (includes meals, beverages and entertainment).

Sponsored by Wesfarmers and WA Country Health Service, the Rural Health West Doctors’ Service Awards celebrate the continued commitment of doctors and specialists through recognition of 20, 30, 40 and 50 years of service to rural and remote Western Australia.

Five special awards that acknowledge the success and achievements of medical care provided by doctors and specialists in rural and remote Western Australian communities are also awarded. Special Award recipients will receive an engraved trophy and a monetary prize for use towards professional development or equipment to aid their practice and improve the health of their community.

The Award for Extraordinary Contribution to Outreach Services

The nominee must:

  • be a specialist currently providing outreach services in rural or remote Western Australia; and
  • have made an extraordinary contribution to outreach services in areas of medicine, teaching or research to communities in rural or remote Western Australia.

The Award for Outstanding Service to Rural and Remote Health

The nominee must:

  • be a currently practising medical practitioner in rural and remote Western Australia; and
  • have made an outstanding contribution to the clinical and overall health and welfare of rural or remote Western Australia through the development and implementation of disease prevention, research, training, disaster management programs or demonstrated outstanding community leadership.

The Award for Remote and Clinically Challenging Medicine

The nominee must:

  • be a currently practising medical practitioner in a general practice, hospital, Aboriginal Medical Service or providing locum services in remote Western Australia (Remoteness Area 4 or 5, see Doctor Connect for further information); and
  • have made an outstanding contribution to the clinical welfare and overall health of the community or to the sustainability of medical services.

The Award for Above and Beyond - Community First

The nominee must:

  • have outstanding motivational skills, encouraging people to deliver the best quality of service possible;
  • work with multiple community stakeholders to make a difference to the health of the community they live in; and
  • demonstrate passion and drive to support country and community health services.

The Award for Outstanding Hospital Doctor

  • have strong skills with clinical governance; and
  • demonstrate innovation - developing and driving solutions.
